As of 2010 the population of the city was 14,787. Sometimes called West University or West U. It is nicknamed “The Neighborhood City” and is mainly a bedroom community for upper-class families. West U is known for its beautiful parks, recreational facilities, as well as its eclectic architectural styles. Almost all street names in West University Place are allusions to universities, colleges, and poets throughout the United States and the world.
